House exams begin for 5th year students on Friday the 24th of May and commence for 1st and 2nd Year Students on Tuesday 28th of May. We remind all students to ensure they are prepared and continue their efforts with their study. The exam timetable is available on the school website. In addition please be mindful of the following:
- All students must be in their designated labelled seat before the second bell each morning irrespective of the start time of the examination. This is to ensure the room has the correct number of papers.
- Students must have the proper equipment for all examinations as borrowing or sharing of equipment (calculators, rulers, pens, etc) is not permitted.
- Mobile Phones must be switched off completely (not simply silenced) and not visible during the examination sessions. They must not be used as a calculator.
- Students should bring study materials with them to revise during non-exam sessions.
- All students are required to wear their full uniform for the duration of the summer House examinations.
Leaving Certificate Ecumenical Service
The Leaving Cert Ecumenical Service was held on a sunny evening on Wednesday the 22nd of May. It was a very special event for our Students leaving the Abbey Vocational School.
The theme of the evening was ‘follow your dreams’ as Students prepared to leave their AVS home and move forward in their chosen career pathways. Parents and Guardians joined the Leaving Cert Students to celebrate the evening, enjoying a beautifully prepared meal and ecumenical service.
Many thanks must go to Father Brady, Reverend Huss and Reverend Richmond for officiating the service. Also thanks must go to Ms Eileen Carr and Ms Claire Breslin for the music arrangements. The evening could not have proceeded without the help of Ms Mulrain, Ms Dillon and our SNAs. This was a very special service as we see our Students move on to the next chapter in their educational careers. Lastly, to the class of 2019 wish you luck and from the Staff of the AVS it has been a pleasure to teach you over the last six years, we hope you achieve all your hopes and dreams for the future!
The reflection from the end of the Ecumenical Service:
‘Believe in yourself and in your dream,
Though impossible things may seem
Someday, somehow you’ll get through
To the goal you have in view
Mountains fall and seas divide
Before the one who in his stride
Takes a hard road day by day
Sweeping obstacles away
Believe in yourself and in your plan
Say not- I cannot – But, I can
The prizes of life we fail to win
Because we doubt the power within.’
